Jazz Access

Jazz Access returns to Rondo with Room3. The band is a jazz fusion wild card rooted in tradition yet driven by experimentation. Their sound is imaginative, melodic and rhythmically sharp, mixing elements of bebop, contemporary jazz, prog rock, funk and more. The collective operates out of Minneapolis most commonly as a five-piece, with Eli Awada on keyboards, Wormdove (aka Beck Anderson) on bass, RAWTWHYLAH (aka Colin Mitchell) on drums, Evan Espinoza Robles on percussion and Mike Green on guitar. Room3 has performed consistently at prestigious venues across the Twin Cities, from The Dakota to the First Avenue Main Room, for over two years, and they were recently selected as one of First Avenue’s “Best New Bands of 2024.” Their debut album, “Bill’s Garden,” is out now.

Free Jazz Access concerts return to North Minneapolis at Capri Theater Plaza. Experience an outdoor jazz club experience complete with seating, tables, and a professional sound system. This August 6th concert features saxophonist Ryan Freitas. Freitas is a career multi-instrumentalist, composer, educator, and producer. Based in Minneapolis after spending nearly a decade in Detroit, Freitas has worked with artists across genres, such as Lyle Lovett, Kem, and Jazz luminaries Rodney Whitaker and Vincent Chandler.

For this Jazz Access concert on the Plaza at the Capri, Freitas will present the music from Joe Henderson's landmark album "In N Out", plus other selections from his songbook. Freitas will be joined by musicians Mitch Van Laar on trumpet, Joe Strachan on piano, Dan Carpel on bass, and Abinnet Berhanu on drums.

Jazz Access returns to East St. Paul on Payne Avenue with a great guitar trio. Geoff LeCrone is a versatile Twin Cities guitarist who has performed on stages large and small. From Orchestra Hall and Target Center to Bunker’s and Arnellia’s, Geoff has contributed to a wide array of musical projects. This is a rare opportunity to hear him lead his own trio through original compositions and classics from the jazz repertoire. Highly recommended!
